VisitBrighton has announced a new virtual festival, The Big BrightonOnline Weekender, taking place throughout the weekend, 8 – 10 May.

Traditionally in Brighton, May is a celebratory month that signals the start of summer, with several leading arts, culture and music events – Brighton Festival, Brighton Fringe, Artists Open House and the Great Escape – all bringing joy and entertainment to hundreds of thousands of people every year.

Due to the quarantine and social distancing in effect, many arts, culture and other live events in Brighton were either cancelled or postponed. VisitBrighton, the city’s tourism body, has curated an exciting line-up full of the best uniquely Brighton events in the city’s first-ever virtual festival to lift your spirits back up.

Both residents and tourists of the city will be able to enjoy what the city has to offer, all from the comfort of their homes. The virtual festival features an exciting schedule including live laughs from the Krater Comedy Club at Komedia, Brighton Fringe’s Roaring 2020 Speakeasy, Drag Festival from Club Revenge, and a live turtle feeding at Brighton’s Sea Life, plus many more set to join the impressive line-up.

The Head of VisitBrighton, Howard Barden said: “We’re so excited to be running this festival full of amazing acts and events. We know this is a tricky time for the whole world and we’re thrilled to be providing a little bit of entertainment to try and lift people’s spirits.”

“Everyone across Brighton’s wonderful arts and events sector has been working so hard on their performances this year and we’re delighted to provide an opportunity for them to still showcase these,” he added.

The virtual festival will be hosted via VisitBrighton’s social media channels where viewers will be directed to the different acts’ channels to enjoy a plethora of live events.
